bug#11050: 24.0.94; emacs hangs

I still get this every now and then; when an external command is
invoked ('g' in dired or vc-dir buffer).
the only way out is 'killall -v -s 9 emacs gdb'.

gdb is sleeping in sys_rt_sigsuspend
there are 2 emacs processes:
parent sleeping uninterruptibly in do_fork
and child sleeping in ptrace_stop.

i.e., it appears that fork/exec chain has been intrerrupted.
could this be a gdb bug?
