The enable-checking build indicates that in the loop in font_clear_cache, an 
element of the list has a car slot with a font spec for "7x14" and a cdr slot 
of nil. If it matters, the remote display in this case is my Mac laptop, and it 
does appear to have a "7x14" font available to its X server.
