bug#18209: Add ability to truncate long grep matches

FWIW, I have the following in my ~/.emacs:

   (defun sm-compilation-mode-hook ()
     (setq truncate-lines t))
   (add-hook 'compilation-mode-hook #'sm-compilation-mode-hook)
