Thanks, this works on FreeBSD 10.1-STABLE, too.

IIUC, -D_THREAD_SAFE or other flags are not needed on FreeBSD (since 7,
at least), linking with -lpthread should be enough since all pthread_
symbols in the shared libc are weak.
