Actually, the problem might be elsewhere. The file src/Makefile defines a rule
for generating $(pdmp) after the Emacs executable was rebuilt. For some
reason, that rule didn't run in your case. I think understanding why could
unlock the mystery. I mean the rule around linec578 of src/Makefile.in.
