You could try applying the latest patch, and run list-colors-display. To see 
other predicates in action, just edit color-dark-p to your heart's desire, and 
run list-colors-display again, and see which one you think is better.

Quite, both naming and documentation can be improved. Those will have to follow 
the semantics, so that will have to be nailed first.
