There's not even the need to go to the trouble
of explicitly renaming the buffer.

Just use `M-n'.  That "clones" the buffer,
automatically giving the new buffer a new name
(e.g. `*info*<2>').

I do that all the time.

If it isn't already (and I'm guessing it is),
this feature should be presented prominently
in the `Info' manual.

And it's already present in the `Info' menu,
as item `Clone Info buffer   M-n'.

(That menu item has a typo, BTW: it should
have "Buffer", not "buffer".)
