   But it's unclear whether there was anything more to fix in this bug
   report.  (I haven't tried reproducing the test cases.)  Bob, are you
   still seeing problems in this area in recent Emacs versions?

No; in fact, I had completely forgotten about this.  I've had no further
issues of this nature with M-. -- in Perl or elsewhere.
