Speaking of backporting, though, could you address Eli's last message in bug#58951? Also, he seems to have reverted the change in the code, but not in the docstring.
Could you also clarify this for me: which of the semantics for 'not' is going to make 'buffer-match-p' a compatible replacement for project--buffer-check?
I assume we do want to drop the custom interpreter inside project.el someday.
