Follow-up Comment #3:

I cannot reproduce this problem with version pspp 1.4.0 on MacOS and on debian
bullseye. On MacOS i have LibreOffice 5.4.4.2. On Linux I have Libreoffice
6.4.4.2.

I used the grid.sps file from examples to create 50000 cases with 500
variables. Then I copied 50000 cases from var2 to to libreoffice. Then I
copied the content in libreoffice to another column. The I copied this column
back to pspp to variable var6. The paste process for 50000 cases into pspp
takes maybe 5 seconds.

I guess you reported this already here:

and that has been fixed in the 1.4.0 release but 1.2.0 freezes as you say.
