Remote host use of tar-1.13

I'm running on a Sun Ultra box.  I've tried both the precompiled
versions and compiled my own version of tar-1.13 and
they all seem to have a problem with connecting to a remote host.

the command:
tar cvf remote_host:/dev/rmt/0n some_file

returns the error:
sh : unknown host

This does not occur with version 1.12,  it does not matter which host I
choose, even the same host I'm executing the command on.

Any patches/suggestions??
