No, this is a wrong assumption; Patch works for me on MS-DOS and
MS-Windows, and it supports both forward Unix-style slashes and
DOS-style backslashes. The reason is that both MS-DOS and MS-Windows
support both styles of slashes in their file-oriented functions.
So some other factor is at work here. I suggest to post one patch
file that gave you trouble and the exact command line you used to
invoke Patch.
