That is a longstanding problem with GNU tar. Quoting from "tar --help":
GNU tar cannot read nor produce `--posix' archives.
It would be nice if someone would fix the problem, but it won't be trivial.
(It would also be nice if Sun tar could read GNU tar archive format. :-)
