This is quite bizarre, even /usr/ccs/bin/strip behaves differently.

what /usr/ccs/bin/strip yields:
        SunOS 5.7 Generic Patch August 2000

I simply used a './configure' and config.status looks like this:

#!/bin/sh
# This file was generated automatically by configure. Do not edit.
# This directory was configured as follows:
./configure --host=sparc-sun-solaris2.7 --norecursion
# using "mh-frag"

Are there other functions check I could perform (e. g. gcc, kernel settings)?

Cheers,
Beat
