Hi!

I just tested grep-2.5, first on an old LINUX (SuSE 6.4) where ist works,
then I tried on a Solaris8 host, where 'Spencer bre test #16 failed'.
Checking the Mailinglists archive I found already on instance of the
bug mailed, but on a different system. (Therefore the Cc.)

The test #16 greps for a '{' with a pattern '\{` like:
        echo \{ | grep -e \\\{

SUN's 'grep' and my grep-2.5 on LINUX and
grep-2.4 on Solaris find a brace this way.

BUT grep-2.5, compiled on Solaris8 with gcc-2.95.3
(gcc-3.0.2 does the same) including 'pcre-3.9',
'libiconv-1.7' and configuring --with-included-gettext
says instead:
        grep: Unmatched \{
which makes it incompatible to the default grep
and so I can not install it :-(

The same Pattern and Binary work if given
the options '-P' or '-E'.

What more information do you need?
