You are right and I was missing something: I was assuming that weak
symbols work on Solaris the same way as they currently work in glibc,
but in fact weak symbols don't work in Solaris at all.

Expect this bug to be fixed in gettext-0.11.3. For the moment, as a
workaround, don't use "-lc" on the link command line.
