Hello, I'm not sure if this is the correct email address for problems
with TAR.
I have recently had bz2 fsckup and 2 little files were unrecoverable
when I ran bz2recover. 512K and 24K file. So there is probably about 1
meg worth of data that is missing. After Un-Taring the first 3.6gig's of
the archive once I recombined the files to near orignal format before
bz2-ing. I find that the file it's breaking on it not needed. it's
another .tar with in the main .tar.
Using the the -R feature of tar I know where the file starts and where
the corruption starts.
block 5506005: temp-neworder/erasure-vpopmail.tar
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
block 7344859: ** Block of NULs **
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Now with what I have read about how .tar files work you got '[header]
[data] [eol] I'm assuming the checksum is jacked up. Is there a way I
can fix this and how? I can't seem to find any tools on google that
would help.
>From block 5506005 to where the next working header with correct
checksum would be fine. Any advice would be appreciated.
