Sorry, but I _still_ cannot reproduce it with your test sample.  Could
you be more specific about what version of grep 2.5 you are using?
Maybe it has some third-party patches that makes it behave this way.

If you are familiar with the GNU debugger then you could see what is
going on.

address@hidden:~/grep-2.5/src$ ./grep --only "analysis-quality" ~/buggrep-a
analysis-quality
address@hidden:~/grep-2.5/src$ ./grep --version | head -n 1
grep (GNU grep) 2.5
