I am pretty sure
that there is a bug in 1.13.25 of GNU tar. If you create a multi-volume
tar archive where the path-to-the-filename portion of a file that is split
across volumes is longer than 96 or so characters, then when you restore the
archive, tar complains that the continued file cannot be found on the next
volume (because the path portion of the filename is longer than the filename
that tar records, so tar cannot find any of the filename). If you do not
understand what I am describing, please ask me for more
details.
