I could go through the packages I support and pick out the ones that are 
impacted
by the fact they presuppose glibc.. and then these errors could be submitted 
via bug 
reports... that combined with an auto-fix mechanism could maybe get rid of 
quite a few 
bugs..

Its time consuming work though; is there a cross-reference between projects and 
their 
home pages? Unfortunately the whole spam thing has made it very difficult to 
issue
bug reports in mass - most of these mailing lists require you to be registered
in order to post. And I don't want to get deluged with thousands of messages
just for pointing out some bugs.

well, yes, but solaris,hpux,aix, os390, etc don't have nearly the incentive to 
port 
that the others have; their native equivalents of glibc are 'good enough' 
for the platform.
