there is no doubt this is a bug. We are modifying the code to circumvent
bugs in installed binaries. This time the buggy program was not
distributed by a huge company but by Bruce Korb. But it's no fuss to
remove the redundant option when we already have "2>/dev/null"; I guess
this redirection is needed to circumvent bugs in other implementations...
