FWIW I would advice against this feature, if it could
even remotely introduce new bugs/new bloat.

That is exactly how it should be I think, ie we open
the diffs with another program to do additional
interpretation.

GNU emacs does it too (diff-mode), so I don't see
a real need for this in diff itself.
