Can you come up with a stack trace (either by running gperf under gdb,
or from the log file in $HOME/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/)?

I tried your small example with gperf 3.0.3 on a MacOS X 10.3 machine,
and it runs fine for at least 11 hours. How long did you run it before
it crashed?

Hmm, so torturing people is forbidden to the U.S. army (except CIA personnel),
but torturing computers is allowed? ;-)
