Can you come up with a stack trace (either by running gperf under gdb,
or from the log file in $HOME/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/)?
I tried your small example with gperf 3.0.3 on a MacOS X 10.3 machine,
and it runs fine for at least 11 hours. How long did you run it before
it crashed?
