Enhancement request for diff?

We've run into a case where it would be useful to have a "--include"
option to diff corresponding the current "--exclude" option.  In other
words, we would like to diff two similar directory trees, but look
only at files that have a certain extension, rather than the hundreds
of other files with other extensions (or no extension)

Has anyone ever thought about implementing this kind of functionality?  Or
is there some technique I've overlooked that will allow the current 
version of diff to do this?
