no rejects file with patch --dry-run

The response from the patch --dry-run option advertises the creation 
of a rejects file, yet no rejects file is found:

$ patch --dry-run -p0 sumstopd.c execve.patch
patching file sumstopd.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 382.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file sumstopd.c.rej
$ ll sumstopd.c.rej
ls: sumstopd.c.rej: No such file or directory

]$ patch -v
patch 2.5.4
