Ok, just checked now, and my recollection was also wrong! as I could not
find anything in older “gettextize” programs that would automatically
handle different «po/» dirs.

I've done that in the past, and before filing the bug, I've prepared now
a small test case, at least it will be easier to see if I'm doing
something wrong?

I was assuming there might be an option missing or a macro to call
that was not documented.

Attached the test case (similar to the current dpkg setup). After
unpacking the tarball and then running “autoreconf -f -i” (autopoint
should be called by autoreconf itself), there's at least ‘Makfile.in.in’
and ‘remove-potcdate.sin’ missing from «a/po/» and «b/po», which are
the minimum files to be able to build it.
