Thanks.  However, I'd prefer a solution that uses the mainstream
configure script.  Any suggestions in that direction?

One possibility is to have a separate header, ms/mingw.h, which
src/system.h will include when Diffutils are built with MinGW tools.
Would this be acceptable?
