The absolute rating is based on a, somewhat arbitrary, linear
interpolation scheme:

epm rating
0.000 2200
0.005 2050
0.010 1950
0.015 1850
0.020 1750
0.025 1600
0.030 1500=20
oo 500

We may very well shift the scale down to, say,

epm rating
0.000 2050
0.005 1950
0.010 1900
0.015 1850
0.020 1750
0.025 1600
0.030 1500
oo 500

With this scale GGRaccoon would be rated at 1990 in the attached file.

What we really need is thousands of analysed matches to gather some
data=20

(rating, error rate per move)

we can do some statistics on. One match is simply not enough.=20

We could request users on rec.games.backgammon to send (rating, error
rate per move) from their matches on GamesGrid and FIBS. Once enough
data has been collected we can try to find a function that fits the
data.

Hi ,
if this can help

my rating on fibs was 1780
my rating on netgammon was 1882 (seems coherent with fibs one)
for both my experience was +-500

currently i have played 83 3 point matches and 12 7 point matches
vs gnubg expert .
I have played very seriously like i was playing on the bkgammon servers .
(never more than 2 matches pr day)

my average checker play error is 0.0126.
i won 47.5 % of the matches.
if i set Gnubg-expert rating to 1950 the 3 point matches gives me a
fibs rating of 1758
a netgammon rating of 1797

my overall rating for the 3 point matches :
beginner 2
novice 1
inter. 4
advanced 10 (according to my sever results i should be here !)
expert 29
WC 28
et 13

i also think the guestimated rating is too much optimistic
md.
