Sorry, I'm not sure I understand :-(
Can you be more specific? Which setting does not apply immediately --
remember, gnubg have some "caching" of the hint-dialog. For example,
assume your evaluation setting (Settings->Evaluate) is 2-ply. When you
ask for hint gnubg will show a 2-ply analysis. Now, you close the hint
dialog, change the evaluation settings to 3-ply, and ask for hint again.
gnubg will remember that you just did a 2-ply analysis for the exact
same position, and will just show that one. That is, gnubg will no
re-evaluate at 3-ply. However, if you play on and reach a new position,
gnubg will show a 3-ply hint. Similar, if you have analysed your match
(Analyse->Match) and ask for hint, gnubg will show the evaluation from
the match analysis.
