Such a flag already exists -- see outputpostpone() and outputresume()
in gnubg.c. (Those functions buffer the output, rather than
discarding it, which I think is probably the behaviour desired.) I
don't have time to modify and test command files at the moment, but
will have a look later this week unless somebody else beats me to it.
