Aha - found it. It's not something I would have tried - changing the
truncation point and disabling truncation. 

It was in the processing of the 'set rollout truncation
plies command'. It was reporting the effect of setting the plies
without examining the enable flag. I'd never tested what it displayed
if you changed the plies and then disabled truncation (although 
'show rollout' does show the correct thing - that no truncation will
take place. I've just checked in a new version of set.c which will
now always report that 'Rollouts will not be truncated' if you've
unticked the Truncate enable flag and changed the truncation point
setting. 

The actual behaviour has always been correct, rollouts would never
have been truncated if the 'Truncate Rollouts' checkbox was not
selected. regardless of any setting of the truncation point.
