I do agree with the annoying 'it's a text editor, does I add .txt' behaviour
of text editor.
(yep, Win32 here)
But I think GNU Backgammon adds .html when I do:
File / Export HTML.
Simply because -everyone- knows a html file is expected to have .html
And images get the .png (or .gif, or .jpg, or ...). And mp3 files get .mp3.
And zipfiles get .zip. and....
mat files, sgg files, sgf files.

And even when *nix systems don't operate with a this-program-this-extension
concept as Window does, a Windows environment does. And browsers do.
So... it is not a bad idea to put a #if win32 to add .png.
Not a bad idea to add .mat exporting mat files.
Not a bad idea to add .ps for postscript. .pdf for PDF files.

Not a bad idea at all
