I did a lot of experiments with compiler optimisation on a Gentoo-Linux
system. My experiences are, that you loose more time while finding
another 0.5 or 1% using a certain compiler flag.
It may sound silly, but for practical reasons it seems cheaper buying a
better board, ram and processor than getting frustated while watching
undefinably segmentation faults, system freezings or similar occurances.
But what I can do today is compiling gnubg-stable on a FreeBSD (Athlon
2200, MSI KT3V, 500MB DDR ram) with these or even more sharp options and
do a longer rollout comparing it with my usual gnubg-stable. I bet it
will be less than 2% gain.
