For me, the arrow keys work for command history and, since I use emacs
settings in ~/.inputrc, 

Ctl P or Up Arrow is previous history line
Ctl N or Down Arrow is next history line
Ctl R does a reverse incremental search in the history
Ctl S does a forward incremental search in the history
