Actually, I find it quite annoying when the window changes size. The
worst case being when stepping through a match so that a change in
size moves your mouse pointer from the previous error to the next
error button and back, leaving you in a loop. (By preference I use the
separate windows version, but I like to run the panel version as well
to check that things are the same)

This would be a much better option, in my opinion.
