What would be wonderful, but quite possibly impractical, would be to
get all of the board display to be caclulated from a small set of
paramters, prefereably chequer size, die size, and extra space between
points, because we could then move to dynamically choosing the board
layout - you wouldn't be restricted to multiples of a single unit
board. 

This might allow keeping the board size optimum for the current window
size (at the cost of perhaps changing the border widths or bar width).
