What looks like a cosmetic change actually required quite a few changes, I took the chance to tidy some odds and ends up at the same time. I've probably introduced a few bugs along the way...

When you add a new design some rough settings get put into the other dimension,

The ultimate solution would be to merge the settings. 2D must be a
special case of 3D, right? Are the number and type of settings very
different, making merging impossible?

You're right that the 3d settings are broadly a superset of the 2d settings. There are some problems where the mapping isn't exact, e.g. the textures in the 3d settings, these generally effect the displayed colours and so the 2d and 3d settings can have different colour values which produce similar colours.

Although having a single setting for both 2d and 3d designs would be nice separate settings don't really cause any problems and offer more flexibility.
