That's where my post was coming in. For decades now the industry has worked to bring personalities to these kinds of games so I find it rather impossible to believe that Douglas has traipsed on virgin ground here. As far as it being very hard to pull off, it's not trivial but it's not impossible.

As it is now, the "bot" plays pretty much the same way every single game. Humans don't do that. However, perhaps a pro can fill me in here. Is backgammon so limited that world-class players all make the same exact plays in the same exact situations? I would have thought not. I've never been to a backgammon tournament but I have to believe that some opponents are social (chatty, warm) while others would be deadly serious and possibly even downright icy or acerbic. Those elements can be extended to the computer player in GNUBG.
