GNUB really looks great with it. However, I noticed something that I hadn't expected. While playing the game the CPU fan cyles up and down continuously suggesting that it's working hard at various points.
I started watching it while playing and noticed the overhead running as high as 30% usage during typical moves. That seemed excessive to me. I then decided to see what would happen if I changed my board from the 3D "Oak/Maple" board to a 2D board. The CPU load dropped down to 2% max.
Why isn't GNUB using the GPU more for the graphics? It seems obvious that the game could likely run much snappier if all 3D functions (or nearly all) were offloaded to the GPU. I would have to think that these cards can handle anything a backgammon game wants to throw at it.
