Jon,
Resizing the window after selecting "Switch to 3D view" corrupts the image totally, you can't even tell that it is a backgammon board. Older versions of gnubg do still work. I have a build of 0.15 from the gnubg-source-rel-0_15_20061120 snapshot from the media/sources archive which works very well, the 3D board displays fine. It does have the problem where the program freezes if you try to change the appearance through the settings menu, otherwise it is okay. I also have a build of 0.14.2 from alpha.gnu.org and while it is not all that stable the 3D board will display properly. Curiously, you can change the appearance through the settings menu, unlike newer versions. As I told Christian, I will build some of the recent snapshots so that I can tell you exactly when the problem started. I just finished the December 12th, 2007 snapshot and it is okay, the 3D board displays properly. I will narrow down the date and get back to you.

Jon,
I tried "set vsync3d on" and the program gave me the message "This function is for the MS Windows 3d board only." I am using MacOSX 10.3.9.

Of course.

I also tried "set appearance boardshadows=y" and "set appearance boardshadows=n", both had no effect, the problem persisted.

Does resizing the window help the 3d display?

As Christian said narrowing down which check-in caused the problem will help a bit, I'm guessing it was my relatively recent 3d changes that will be the culprit though. Do old versions of gnu still work (i.e. are you sure it isn't a problem on your machine)?

Jon
