That's probably a sign the control is not straightforward enough.
But in this case, I don't think there's something that is much better.

One thing we could have is a pop-up when you start gnubg that shows each
time a different tip (that's now common in many programs). Of course, it
should be optional.
Tips will include a top-10 of the most asked questions about the GUI.

An alternative could be a FAQ section.
