Makebearoff will create databases bigger than 2gb but GNUBG apparently
can't use them.

As far as I am aware at this point in time the 2gb limit is still an
issue. As you know there is a caveat in the current documentation.

I haven't personally invested any time in investigating what it would
take to support larger ones. I don't know if the issue is OS specific,
file system restrictions, 32 bit signed integer limitation with current
implementation, or some issue with memory mapping.

I'd be willing to look at it, but I'm curious is anyone on this list has
any insights before I expend the energy starting from scratch.
