I upgraded to Beta 4 of Yosemite and find that GNUBG is no longer loading, even if I open X11 (up to date) first.

Any idea why it isn?t working, or when it will work?

Howdy,

Regarding official GNUbg releases I usually don't put those out until
sometime after a particular OS is officially released.

Is this the first version of Yosemite that you have tried (I am nsure if
you upgraded from a previous preview release of Yosemite or from an
official OS/X release (mountain lion, lion etc)?

Occasionally I am forced to produce completely new binaries because
Apple has made libraries incompatible from one release to the other.

I assume that you properly installed GNUbg by dragging it to the
/Applications folder. If you have done that then I'd be curious for you
to try the following. Open a command terminal and issue these 3 commands:

uname -a
ls -ld ~/.gnubg
/Applications/gnubg.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/gnubg.x11

The last one should attempt to launch GNUbg. Please wait at least 2
minutes if gnubg.xll sits and thinks the first time it is run. I'd like
to know if you hear GNUbg make any sound when you ran the last command.

If you can provide me the output from those commands it would be a
useful starting point.

This year I was approached by Daisuke Takahashi who was updating
Macports to use newer versions of GNUbg. After giving him a bit of help
he now maintains the GNUbg port. Macports GNUbg currently uses the
latest officially release source code (1.03.001). It may be possible to
use Macports to build GNUbg until official binaries are released. I make
no guarantees that Macports + Yosemite + gnubg will compile but if you
are a power user and don't mind getting your hands dirty this might be
an option.

Information on the latest version of source Macports builds GNUbg from
cnan always be found here:

Hi Mike

Thank you kindly for your reply.

I did try everything you said, and while the game window never came up, the sound that generally aquaplanes opening the application did sound.

The terminal screen output was as follows…

I hope that helps us to get this working.

FWIW, I had upgraded from the latest release of Mavericks.  My gnubg installation was working just fine before the conventional install (i.e. not a clean install).

Thanks again for your help and all that you give to the community via your work on gnubg.

All the best

Thomas
