Yes there will be trouble in the moment of the switch to gnulib. But the
amount of trouble, compared to the functionality and its robustness, will be
small, because Jim and I regularly test many of the modules in coreutils +
gettext.

After such a big change in autoconf things I recommend a round of portability
testing: compile on Linux (to get forced to #include the right headers),
on NetBSD (because it lacks a POSIX printf), on Solaris (because its C compiler
is quite picky about some things not allowed in ANSI C), on HP-UX (because
everyone is a bit of a masochist), on Mingw (because it lacks ssize_t), on
AIX (because it does everything differently), on FreeBSD (because is has no
working internationalization)...
