... or i could just use the PM that already manages everything else in my 
system since it's trivial for me to integrate with it.  i'm not complaining 
about gettext or troubles with it, just that the idea of requiring packages to 
be under PM control is fairly straight forward and quite reasonable.

i'm not looking for random upstream projects to try and assist in this (beyond 
the general of not having a stupid install footprint int he first place).
