I've identified that this patch causes problem for me in GSS, when
running autoreconf I get this error message:

However if I remove the following from all gnulib-common.m4 (there are
three of them):

Then building works fine.

Any ideas why this happens?

Note that I am NOT calling gl_ASSERT_NO_GNULIB_POSIXCHECK or doing
anything related to posixcheck as far as I know.
