Well, the tool on Red Hat systems is not called 'rpm' any more.
Later it was called 'yum'. And now 'dnf'. And on Debian, 'dkpg'
is used together with 'apt'.

I'm not talking about the tool, but the system in both cases.

And if you mean the user-visible suffix of package files, then
you would need to write @code{.rpm}, @code{.deb}, and so on.

"RPM" and "APT" are correct, they name the packaging systems. I think you'll find that they are widely recognized by readers.

If you still don't agree, then I suggest: "The package systems of most GNU/Linux distributions."

Either way, Red Hat is not even an (extant) distribution, and neither Red Hat nor Debian is (or was) a package system.
