I see similar speedups, using the test suite:
On Linux: On Cygwin 2.9.0:
in create-tests: time ./test-all.sh in create-tests: time ./test-all.sh
sh: 1225 sec sh: 27406 sec
py: 155 sec py: 2400 sec
=> about 8 times faster => more than 11 times faster
in import-tests: time ./test-wget2-1.sh in import-tests: time
./test-wget2-1.sh
sh: 31.9 sec sh: 831 sec
py: 0.35 sec py: 43 sec
=> more than 91 times faster => more than 19 times faster
