I'm really glad this is working for you now! What's odd on my end is that I don't see any directory with SGID set. In any case, thanks for troubleshooting it, and as a precaution, I'll be using a tar.bz2 next time, just like what Firefox uses to release their source. In the past it's been traditionally released under both tar.xf and tar.bz2, so we might as well settle on one. Another thing that might be the source of the issue is that I use the bzr repo and run "bzr export" at the end to generate the directories ready to be compressed.
