Matches for me.

I am using
  bash$ gcc --version
  gcc (GCC) 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-1)
  bash$ rpm -q glibc
on Linux 2.4 and I have attached the config.h file produced by CVS grep's
configure on my system.  Please do so with yours.  Also, I have used
  "./configure --verbose --without-included-regex".

I will look at your linked patch, but let's please work on finding the
problem on a minimally modified latest CVS version first.  By minimally
modified, I mean only with modifications that pertain to zeroing-in on that
specific problem.
